YEAH!!!!!
Made it. Finally. Do you guys realize how long I’ve been trying to get here? It’s been like, 8 months. Seriously. Way too long to be living in one’s parents’ basement, no matter how comfy a basement it might have been. The new place is awesome, Jason and Eleanor did a great job of picking it out. We’ve got hardwood floors, new carpet in the bedrooms, and a new kitchen. Beautiful house, and a nice location. We’re right next to pretty much every major highway, and only a few minutes outside of the downtown spots. Good stuff. I’ll post a few photos here also, just to give you folks a look at the crib. Also got a couple of good clubs right outside the front door, although I use “club” in a very loose sense of the word. Really, they’re kind of punk rock / indie dives, which have an awesome vibe. Last night got to see a hardcore show and drink too much beer, which is a good time. Didn’t think I’d ever see Lois at a hardcore show, but she hung in there.
The trip down was good, although I’ve realized I need a new catalytic convertor for the car. I’ll grab one soon, but yeah, a bit loud. What can you do? It took me three days to get here, two very long days to get to Phoenix, then a coast on in here after picking up Lois. Whole car was packed full. I feel bad, Lois kept asking “Can I take this?”, to which the answer was always “Sure, if you put it on your lap the whole way.” She did a good job packing though, unlike me. I really just threw everything I own in the car and drove.
So, what’s the weather there? Over here, sunny, in the 60’s. It’s a cold spell, but we’ll be up to 77 on Saturday. Oh yeah. Everybody knows how much I hate snow.
So, a couple of observations from the road.
Missouri - actually really beautiful. Who knew? I expected it to be awful, but it was gorgeous. I suppose it’s just the politics that bother me.
Texas - State trooper lets me off with a warning and a suggestion that I drive safe. Who knew that state troopers anywhere did that sort of thing, especially in Texas.
North East Arizona - ok, seriously, this is just ridiculous. Took the scenic route through the mountains, shaved a hundred or so miles off the trip. A little ways in, I see a sign, real similar to the Deer X-ing signs in MI, except this one has horns on it, and says “Elk” underneath. Nothing unusual, just a leaping elk. No big deal. So, as I drive on, I see another sign, and this one has the same elk on it, only this time he’s just standing in the middle of road, chillin’. Ok, so the elks in this area are slightly lazier, they just stand around, no leaping. As I drive on, I pass yet another sign, this one with the elk with his head lowered, as if he’s charging (or she, who knows?). And, keep in mind, that it’s not just the one sign of each style, it’s multiple signs, one every mile or two. I’m like, OK, I get it already, THERE ARE ELK IN THIS AREA. Seriously, you don’t need to cram it down my throat. I’ve seen all 3 types of signs multiple times, I understand, there are elks in the area. I’m informed. Your job is done, department of transportation. Really, after the first one I was confused, the second one helped, and the third style really locked it in, but I’m ok now, I understand the dangers which I’m facing.
So, as I keep driving, I look to the side of the road and what do I see but a sign, which reads “Caution - Animals Next 20 Miles”. What? WHAT? Did you think I had forgotten? Are you just screwing with me right now? I know, and you know, that what you really mean is not animals next 20 miles, but ELK NEXT 20 MILES. I know what you’re trying to do, and it’s insulting. I got it last time, ok, THERE ARE FUCKING ELK THAT MAY BE INTHE FUCKING ROAD. Now shut up, or I will come down there and destroy you.
Drove the entire way, saw not a single friggin’ elk.
Ok, gonna take some photos to put up with this post. Oh, and if anybody needs it, the address here is 4344 35th St., San Diego CA 92104. Phone is same as before.
******
Well, took photos, but for some reason, blogger will not let me post them. I'll put 'em up when I can.
