Ahh, the weekend.
Yep, gotta love the weekend. Strange to be back in that routine of work, weekend, work, weekend. The canvassing is going pretty well, I just "graduated" to field manager. More work, same pay. Don't really know what the incentive is. Incidentally, some feedback on this would be appreciated, so feel free to chime in if you've got a thought. So, talked with the roommate / boss and his director. The idea is this - I could very easily go ahead, continue to work here until I become an office director. That would put me in my own office somewhere in the country, not sure where, and I would run the whole place. From there, I could be a regional director, running the offices of a specific region (11 in the U.S.). Doesn't sound like a bad gig at all from that info, but there's a downside. First off, the salary is negligible, 24 a year to start. It is a nonprofit after all. Also, working hours are LONG, bout 60 a week. It's a real heartbreaker to try to decide this sort of thing for me. I mean, I've gone and interviewed at a few places, and it sucks to think about sitting in some soul-less cubicle, doing nothing but bringing home a paycheck. This would be an awesome opportunity to do something more, but I don't know that it could ever be a real career. So, I'm torn. As I said, thoughts are definitely appreciated.
On to happier stuff though. Had an awesome weekend, thought I'd comment on it. Friday night after work, a bunch of kids from work, (Jamie Choi, Sung Min Mo, Jason and Steve, then Lois and I) went to Min Sok Chon in the korean area of town. Got a big old fattie dinner of some bibimbap and dduk guk, then started in on the soju and singing. Did the no ray bang for a good three hours. Scarily eerily identical to Korea. A bunch of no talent white guys screaming out our favorites, then the two K-girls bustin' out with the serious shit. No smoking anywhwere in Cali, except the Koreans don't care, they dig the shit. Anybody who knows Koreans knows they just let people pretty much do whatever the hell they want when it comes to smoking. Small thing, but just added to the k-vibe of the whole night. Was wishin' Pat and Caleb were there to rock out a couple of the favorites with me, but no such luck. All in all though, had a great time, an oddly pleasant soju hangover, and felt like I was back "home" for a minute. It's weird, there really is no one place that I call home anymore, it's all relative. All the ko-jangi kids had a blast, it was the first time for some, but we all agreed it was the most fun that anybody had had in months. We'll do it again sometime soon for sure.
Last night was more laid back, had dinner at the Sushi Deli, where my buddy James works. Yep, good sushi and a few kicked down sakes never hurt anybody.
Which brings me to my overall point, which is just that So Cal rocks. Weather is back to beautiful, people are so diverse it's insane, and life is pretty damn good. Can choose whether or not to kick it Japanese, Korean, or anything else you like whenever and however you like. I recommend it to everybody, and would like to mention that the apartment behind my house is vacant. Just a thought.
Until next time...
