I wanna be sedated

10/15/05

Wow, so I really REALLY like the cover of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" that Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole does. Guy blows my mind. Was going to write some stuff up, but decided to give that a listen first. Ended up just sitting here, singing to myself (and probably the neighbors) for a bit. The acoustics at the pad are pretty sweet. Well, pretty sweet for me. Judging from the poundings on the ceiling that I occasionally get, I'm not so sure the folks below me appreciate it as much as I do. The neighbors, kinda funny folk. Pretty passive aggressive, really. The female half of the couple has made multiple remarks to me about noise "The other neighbor was so noisy." "My cats are really loud." "Fat people can get really loud." These are exact quotes. So, she's obviously concerned, then pounds on the ceiling, but is all sugar and spice to my face. I personally feel like people, in general, need to say what's on their mind. At the same time, if you live in L.A., you should be prepared for the fact that approximately 15,999,999 other people live there, and may occasionally make some noise. Take some precautions, buy a fan or something. Mine cost 15 bucks.

So, I know that most people who read this live vicariously through me, so I thought I'd see if I had something entertaining to share with you all. Out of all the exciting things that happen to me on an almost hourly basis, I've got a couple which I hope are entertaining without blowing anybody's mind.

Just jokin'. Find myself prone to outbursts of ego a lot these days, not sure why. Honestly though, and this is just a side note, have realized that I like myself quite a bit. Wasn't always so sure of that when I was younger. Moving on though.

So, yesterday after work went to Barney's Beanery, which is a pretty sweet little greasy spoon / beer bar across the street from where I work. Hanging out with my little sister and a co-worker for a bit when I decided to go smoke. Ended up chilling outside for a while with a couple of English blokes, who turn out to be in the band People on Planes. Think Radiohead, only bigger rock. Cool kids, they're on tour with The Bravery right now. Tomorrow is their L.A. show, so they were just relaxing for a while. Long story short, hung out for a while, Sarah and Sue Ellen came out as well, and everybody is now friends. They're going to guest list us for their show on Sunday. I'll let everybody know how it is.

The second exciting thing (other than my daily commute, where I'm sure that I'm going to die an average of three times a day) was earlier this week. Myself and my girls Eleanor and Jamie were hanging out, relaxing after the end of a visit from Eleanor's mother. She's a good lady, Mrs. Smith, but I think that anytime the folks show up, then leave, it's a good idea to have a bit of a break afterwards. So, we went out to a place called the 4100 Club, little hole in the wall local bar in Silver Lake. Stepped outside for a cigarette (notice a trend? this is what makes it hard to quit smoking) when who do we bump into but Kiefer Sutherland. Get a little whigged out for a second, when Elly decides she's not going to do the "too cool" thing any longer and introduces herself. Kiefer then introduces himself to Jamie and I, and introduces his friend. Really nice guy. Just throws out the hand, drops a firm handshake, "Hi, I'm Kiefer. Good to meet you." Really kind of random. Hung out with him and a couple other random bar people for a little while, then took off. Strange, huh?

Have to say, L.A. is a strange place. All sorts of people here. It seems to me that the people with the least to get high and mighty over are the ones that do it the most. Last night hung out in front of the Chinese Theatre, the whole walk of stars tourist area. Plenty of people who thought they were beautiful, out in droves to wait hours to get into clubs full of other beautiful people. Stark contrast to Kiefer Sutherland, who lives in the neighborhood and hangs out at dive bars. I smoked cigarettes, watched traffic, and played with Sammy the Jack Russell Terrier, owned by Andy, the random girl from Grand Rapids. I have to say, I have a great appreciation for those of us from the midwest at this point. Not that SoCal kids aren't awesome, but of the really cool kids I've met, the majority aren't locals.

That's the update. As I mentioned, I'm trying to do better updating the blog. I have a lot more free time, more time to myself for a little bit of writing, reading, singing along to music that I love. I'm in a really good place right now, and I feel like I should be passing that on to any of you who have been wondering. I know that I don't always keep in touch with people as well as I should. The blog is a good way for me to keep y'alls in the loop.

Until later, much love to everybody.
