Long time no post.

Happy Birthday to Caleb, Patrick, Lois, and anybody who I've missed. Tons of birthdays this time of year. Hope this year finds each one of you better off than the last. I did actually put a post up on this, but for some reason, it got eaten. Oh well, what can you do?

Would like to write a big long post at the moment, but not sure how much time I have. See, I'm sitting at my office, rather than working, due to the destruction of my car. Shed a tear for the Nissan, boys and girls. Ok, so it's not really all that bad, I'm just taking a moment for drama. Some woman in an SUV ran me over today while stopped at a red light. Car still drives fine, but is technically "totalled". Yee ha.

Means a slow work day at the very least.

So, do have lots of good stories to tell. Just got back from Washington DC, which was pretty rad. Went out to do a conference and some campaigning for work. May have mentioned that I got a bit of a promotion. Nothing huge, but definitely stoked about it. Before the the work in DC, we went to Blacksburg, VA, where Virginia Tech is, to do some get out the vote work. Virginia Tech, beautiful campus, lots to see, tons of students to turn out to vote. There were about 10 of us down there, working 12-16 hour days the whole time, just trying to get these kids fired up. So, all week we're running around, signing pledges, giving away voting schwag, hollering and yelling and carrying on until election day. On election day, one of the guys I'm working with decides we need a mascot, something that rhymes with "vote". So yeah, we talk a local woman into lending us her goat. We talk some random guy with a pickup into going and picking up saidgoat. We walk around campus with a goat, and an 8 year old kid braying, goatlike "Vo-o-o-o-o-t-e". We put streamers and soda cans on a car, just married style, with a sign that says "Just Voted", which we drive around every hour when classes break. We stuff "vote-yatas" full of candy for people to hit with sticks. We turn out double the vote of the last VA gubernatorial election in our precinct by 2:30 in the afternoon, a full 4 and a half hours before the polls close. Don't screw with the vote goat. To top it off, actually got paid pretty well. While driving the "just voted" mobile, was actually surprised that I was getting paid at all. Had a good moment of hilarity when I realized that I was driving around, throwing beads and candy at people and getting paid. Then I played with the goat.

To top it off, caught the last of the Fall color season, which I really wanted to see this year.

Back in DC, good times as well. Did the typical tourist stuff, like visiting the capital, seeing the memorials, all that. Did some canvassing as well, which was pretty sweet in DC. Everybody was keyed in. Saw Howard Dean, said hi to Karl Rove, hung out with some pretty cool kids from across the country. Good times. Missed a wake up call from the hotel, (their bad, not mine). Stayed in DC an extra day while waiting for a flight, paid for by the hotel. Damn you, Comfort Inn.

Got home, slept for 14 hours straight, after taking a day to get my car properly insured and the plates/registration/smog up to date.

Got run over by a woman in an SUV.

And that, boys and girls, is about the way things stand. Had meant to keep this up to date a little bit better, but have not been able to. Will try harder, from here on out. Maybe get the car wrecked a few more times, see how that goes. Gives me plenty of free time.

Cheers,
Gabe
