I am the new Andrew of blogging.
Things have been pretty hectic. Not bad hectic, or at least not anymore bad hectic, but busy busy busy nonetheless. Where to start?
The Fund. Good place. Where I've worked for the past year and a half, in San Diego, and then L.A. Nonprofit. Not a whole lot of money, but not a big deal. Was going well over the winter, but got a little old. Asked for a promotion last fall, didn't get it. Asked for one this spring, didn't get it. Looked into the promotion a little more, realized it would be way more work for less money, and would lose my paid healthcare. Could have moved into higher position in scenic cities like Omaha or Cincinatti. Promotion suddenly started to look less attractive. Continued work. Did things like calling candidates to be hired in, fresh out of college, for said promoted position. Pondered things like "Boy, with this much experience, maybe they should just put me in this position, as opposed to some totally green college kid." After work, went home and pondered things like which bill to not pay this month. Drank exceedingly cheap alcohol during said pondering. Was still stoked to be part of the organization and doing the work, but having second thoughts. Examined state stats on poverty levels. Decided to see if other nonprofit groups had similar positions, plus a little bit of respect for the extensive experience that I happen to have.
Enter Greenpeace. Yeah, you've heard of them. Yeah, they're the biggest environmental group in the world. Yeah they tie themselves to trees. Not that being tied to a tree was my number one goal, but it's a perk. As is healthcare, a decent salary, long term disability insurance, and a chance to help start the outreach program in L.A.
Long story and terrible prose short, took the Greenpeace offer. Am now a City Coordinator for their outreach and advocacy work in L.A. It's the start of this type of work for Greenpeace, so I get to put in a lot of input on how I want the program to run, and what I think are the best ways to do it. Instead of coming up against a brick wall at every suggestion of a better way to do things, I just do them and get congratulated on results.
So, I finally get to run an office. There's one guy over top of me, but he's good to work with. I get to work for an organization with some clout, and this month, I'll pay all my bills on time. The Fund is irate with me. And I won't get into that, it was hard to leave. Not a decision taken lightly, but what feels like a good one. And, after a while, if it wasn't, that's fine. It's been a year for some steps that I wasn't sure of, and it's worked out nicely. Now I'm done stewing in the house, which is kind of key as well.
I also caved to public pressure to get a myspace account as well, so give a holler if you're on there. I didn't actually create it myself, couple buddies did. In other words, pay no mind to the seacrest comments.
In other news, big props to Trisha for passing the Washington state board exam on her first try. Clever girl. And now my representation in legal matters. Dad's a doc, friend's an attorney. Need a cop and I'll be in good shape.
That's it for the month of June. Maybe. Much love.

Gabe,
Good to see you blogging again. I need your advice on Hawaii. I'm going to be in Honolulu for a week this July. Any ideas on what to do, see, etc.? Let me know. Thanks.
